Euro 2012 Predictions

UEFA Euro 2010 is set to be a very exciting competition, with nine qualifying groups (a total of 51 teams) all competing for 16 places in the final. The host countries Poland and Ukraine and guaranteed automatic qualification so this leaves only 14 spots to play for! 

The spots are awarded automatically to the winning team of each of the nine groups and the highest ranked second place team (taking goal difference into account if equal points are achieved by more than one team). The remaining eight second placed teams compete in a two legged playoff for the four remaining spots in the final. 

Current European Champions and winner of the World Cup 2010, Spain, are favourites to walk away from Euro 2012 victorious. Although following their success in South Africa 2010, finishing in 3rd place, and having reached the finals of Euro 2008 Germany come a close second to the favourites to win the final of UEFA Euro 2012. 

Also in the running for a spot in the final playoff are the Netherlands, as runners up in this year World Cup final they will feel they are in with a good chance of reaching the final again in 2012. 

As for the top scorer in this competition the clear choice would be David Villa for Spain, he is on top form at present and as long as he keeps it up throughout the competition there are very few who can compete! If you’re a fan of outsider bets the next best options I can offer you are Ozil and Muller, based purely on their performances for Germany during the World Cup these two could offer some exciting goals – lets just hope the quantity matches the quality!

A soccer coach is only as good as his soccer drills and training methods . Anyone can discipline a team and keep them from  playing up  . But how many  managers can successfully implement soccer drills into soccer training?

The misconception of soccer drills is that it’s a great way to keep young players from misbehaving. Soccer drills are a great way for the coach to relax and just watch the action. Don’t you agree? I hope you said no!

Soccer drills should be utilised to develop young players. Through continuous repetitions players of any age can master a certain aspect of the game whether it’s passing the ball or shooting at goal.

The type of soccer drills or the length of the exercise is not as important as the quality of the drill. Always make sure the drill is challenging the player’s skill level and their fitness level. Players should not go through the motions. They should complete every drill as if it was match day.

The two main goals  of a soccer drill should be to increase the skill level of a player while simultaneously increasing their fitness level.

The benefits of a well-orchestrated soccer drill are enormous. As mentioned above, players become fitter and develop their bag of tricks. Also players become stronger and develop specific muscle groups that are required for certain movements such as passing, tackling, shooting and so on.

If the soccer drill is properly conducted and set up, the coach should always encourage and praise his players. He should also instruct all players to encourage and motivate each other. This helps build team morale and team spirit. It also encourages each player to push even harder to try and receive further praise from his teammates, which inevitably creates a hunger for improvement.

Remember a team that encourages each other is very intimidating on match day. A team full of players that are friends and have team spirit are very difficult to beat.

Most coaches will agree that a champion team will always beat a team of champions.

Coaching young kids can be the most frustrating experience or it can be the most rewarding . When young players misbehave chances are your soccer drills are too easy or possibly a little too advanced.

In order for your team to train and listen, the drills need to be physically demanding and keep all the players involved. The drills need to be short and performed at a pace that involves the whole group .

If you notice your team misbehaving the drills might be too easy and it’s a good indication that the players are bored. On the other hand,  if the drills are too difficult  , the players will surrender and start to play up. As a coach you must remember that young kids attention spans are very short and they need to be stimulated to keep them from misbehaving.

Soccer drills are a great way to combat this problem during training. Drills allow you to develop one or two aspects of the game at once. For example, simple passing drills allow the players to practice passing the ball and receiving the ball while having fun. If the drills are executed properly, the players will not even realise their training a certain aspect of the game. They will mistake it for having fun.

 Observing  soccer drills is also a great way to monitor your players. Analysing the drills and players performance is a great way to identify player’s strengths and weaknesses.

The most crucial aspect of soccer drills is teaching the players certain skills. Always show the players the drill with a live demonstration. If you can’t complete the drill, how do you expect your players to complete them?

Also the playing area or the grids should be constructed before training begins. You want your training sessions to flow from one exercise to another. The last thing you want on your hands are ten young kids waiting for you with every opportunity to misbehave.

Last but not least, encourage all players while performing the drills. Praise good actions while correcting mistakes or bad form with friendly advice and demonstrations .

Soccer training sessions constructed around soccer drills benefit the players the most. What better way to teach your players the basics of soccer? Incorporate fun into the drills and you never know you might unearth tomorrow’s superstar.

When Everton left in 1892, it was over an argument for rent. World Cup Final Prediction: Sunday July 11th: 7.30pm 2010: 

So here we are. After 61 games we have the final between “Holland” & “Spain”. Both sides have never won the World cup so there will now be a new name on the winners list. 

I have predicted 61 games in this world cup & here is a breakdown of how my predictions have gone.

As you can see my success rate at correct results is 50% or 49% if you are mean. Hopefully with me getting the final correct it will be dead on 50% which after a bad start when it was around 20% after the first week is better. I will leave it to you as to wether you think my rate is ok or not? My Premiership record last season was 57% (I think) so it is not as good as the Premiership but there has been obviously less games I have predicted. 

This world cup has produced some major shocks & the fact that both sides in the final have never won the World cup before says a lot. This is my last article until the start of the English Premiership season begins when I will produce my Predictions for the all English Divisions as I have done the previous two years. Until then enjoy Sunday’s game & the rest of the Pre season & see you all in August. Only six weeks away. You lucky people. 

Match 62: World Cup Final: Spain – Holland: (Sunday 7.30pm): 

Spain are appearing in their first World Cup final after winning their first ever World cup Semi final 1-0 against Germany on Wednesday Night. I must admit that I do like the way the Spanish play & they did very well in the second half to restrict the Germans to hardly any chances. They did this by simply keeping the ball & passing really well, something they have done more or less the entire tournament. The Germans will have been gutted by losing out at the Semi final stage after surprising everyone with their attacking free flowing football but as they are a young side their time should come again. We will see. The Spanish of course lost their first group game 1-0 to Switzerland but have recovered to win every game since. The Dutch in contrast are undefeated winning every game including of course their semi final victory over Uruguay 3-2. Two second half goals were enough for them to beat the last team from South America. Uruguay did really well to reach the semi finals for the first time since 1950 & they should hold their heads up high at reaching the semi finals. Holland have of course appeared in the World cup final twice before in 1974 & 1978 & I don’t suppose they will be too keen on making it a hat trick of final defeats but alas I fear that Is what is going to happen to them as I can’t see how they are going to beat Spain unless the Spanish have an off day & fail to take the chances that their football will create. This will be a shame for the Dutch for the reasons mentioned above but football as many people have said before can be a very cruel game. Just ask Spain as they had amazingly never even reached a semi final before this World cup. A Spanish win then & a result that will be reward for their fine football.
