Best Correct Premiership Predictions for the last Round of Fixtures:
“Stoke beating Sunderland at home & Everton beating Blackpool for only their 4th home win of the season”
Hello everyone & welcome to week 28. Last weekend I managed no correct scorelines & 4 correct betting results. The correct Premiership results were Stoke beating Sunderland, Everton beating Blackpool, Manchester City beating West Brom & Spurs beating Bolton.
Not good but not terrible is how I would read last weekends Premiership betting predictions. It should have read 5 correct results if it wasn’t for the best efforts of the referee to give Newcastle a point in the second half of their game against Arsenal. One dubious sending off & two incorrect penalties will help any side & there was only one winner & that was Manchester United who saw their lead at the top reduced to four points instead of the two it should have been. No wonder the ref didn’t want to speak to anyone after the game. Corruption? Of course not, it only happens in Europe & not here.
See you all again on Monday for the next round of the Champions League.
Match 1: Manchester United – Manchester City: (Saturday February 12th: 12.45pm):
Manchester United as everyone knows lost for the first time in the League this season when they went down 2-1 at bottom club Wolves. This was obviously a surprise to me & many others. United may be unbeatable at home but away their league form has been average. However, United are still top by 4 points because Arsenal could only draw at Newcastle 4-4 after being 4-0 up at Half time. United now face their local rivals City who won 3-0 against West Brom last Saturday which spelt the end for West Brom’s manager who was sacked a few days afterwards.
City have the second best away record in the Premiership behind Arsenal. They have won at West Ham, Blackpool, West Brom, Newcastle, Wigan & Fulham. The draws away have come at Stoke, Spurs, Arsenal & last time out at Birmingham when they drew 2-2. City have only lost three times away & those defeats came at Aston Villa, Wolves & Sunderland.
United’s home record is impressive with only two points dropped at home & that was in the 2-2 draw with West Brom earlier in the season. I believe that City are one of the few sides that are capable of taking points of Manchester United at home. If they do manage to get a result in this game then it could blow open the title race. Let’s hope there is no repeat of this fixture last season when the ref played on until United scored the winner.
Match prediction: A draw
Score Prediction: Manchester United 2 Manchester City 2
Attendance Prediction: 75,000
Match 2: Arsenal – Wolves: (Saturday February 12th: 3pm):
Arsenal dropped two points last Saturday when they threw away a 4-0 half time lead to draw at Newcastle with massive help from the ref. I will however say that Arsenal’s defence is not their strongest point but I can’t believe that Chelsea or Manchester United will have had a referee making decisions against them like Arsenal had in that second half last Saturday.
Arsenal did however reduce Manchester United’s lead at the top to four points as United lost 2-1 at Wolves. Arsenal now play United’s victors in a game they need to win to get the Newcastle game out of their system. Arsenal have a good recent home record after they had lost three times at home in the opening third of the season to West Brom, Newcastle & Spurs. Since that Spurs defeat in mid November Arsenal have beaten Fulham, Chelsea, Wigan, Everton & drawn with Manchester City. In fact Arsenal have only lost once since that home defeat to Spurs in the league & that was away at Old Trafford against Manchester United when they lost 1-0. Arsenal have lost only 5 games in the league this season which is only bettered by Manchester United’s one defeat. For the record Chelsea have lost 7 times & Manchester City have lost 5 (City have drawn more than Arsenal, ie, Arsenal 5 draws against City’s 6).
I think that as Wolves have the worst away record in the League with just one win at Liverpool & a draw at Everton then they will lose but they will probably make Arsenal sweat a bit for the three points.
Match prediction: An Arsenal win
Score Prediction: Arsenal 2 Wolves 0
Attendance Prediction: 60,000
Match 3: Birmingham – Stoke: (Saturday February 12th: 3pm):
Birmingham got a valuable win at fellow strugglers West ham last Sunday when they won 1-0. This result lifted them to 16th in the table but still only point above the drop zone. Blues now face a Stoke side who won 3-2 against Sunderland last Saturday to further cement their good home record but it is away that Stoke need to improve.
Stoke’s away record is below average with just the three away wins at Blackburn, Newcastle & West Brom & draw at Wigan. The rest they have lost which have been at Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolves, Bolton, Everton, Sunderland, Liverpool & Fulham. They now face a Birmingham side who may have drawn a lot of games at home but are still proving difficult to beat at home which has been proved by draws with both Manchester Clubs & Spurs plus a win against Chelsea.
The wins at home for Birmingham have come against Chelsea, Blackburn &Blackpool. The draws list then is Wigan, West Ham, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs & Liverpool. The two defeats have come against Everton & Arsenal which were both predicted by yours truly.
Birmingham have only won 5 games all season & they need to get some more under their belt to pull away from the drop zone. I think they will starting with a win in this game against Stoke.
Match prediction: A home win
Score Prediction: Birmingham 2 Stoke 0
Attendance Prediction: 26,000
Match 4: Blackburn – Newcastle: (Saturday February 12th: 3pm):
Blackburn lost their last home game 1-0 at home to Spurs so I don’t expect them to lose two home games on the bounce. They have a good home record as they have had in previous seasons which is more or less the reason for their continued survival in the Premiership. So far Blackburn have beaten Wolves, West Brom, Everton, Aston Villa, Wigan & Liverpool at home while drawing with Sunderland, West Ham & Fulham. The four defeats have come against Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea & Stoke. Blackburn find themselves in midtable in 11th place while Newcastle one place above them in 10th on goal difference.
Newcastle obviously had a great result last Saturday when they drew 4-4 with Arsenal. Newcastle’s away record is average with wins at Everton, Wigan, West Ham & Arsenal. The draws have been at Sunderland & Wolves but they have gone down at West Brom, Manchester United, Manchester City, Spurs, Bolton & last time out away 1-0 at Fulham to a late goal.
I think that both sides will more or less end up in midtable come the end of the season but Blackburn’s good home form will see them home in this game.
Match prediction: Blackburn to win
Score Prediction: Blackburn 2 Newcastle 1
Attendance Prediction: 26,000
Match 5: Blackpool – Aston Villa: (Saturday February 12th: 3pm):
Villa drew at home with draw specialists Fulham last Saturday 2-2. That means that Villa have only lost once in their last 7 games. Villa’s only defeat in their last seven games was a 3-1 loss at leaders Manchester United. The signing of Darren Bent seems to have given Villa a lift & as a consequence I expect them to climb the table to midtable safety. They are at present 14th in the table one place above Blackpool by just the one point.
Blackpool have lost their last 5 league games which is why they have dropped down the table from midtable to 15th. Blackpool are now only two points above the drop zone so to say they need a win is a massive understatement. Villa have a poor away record but Blackpool have a poor home record so something has to give. Blackpool have only won three games at home against Liverpool (Their last win in the League), West Brom & Wolves. They did manage to draw with Everton & Fulham but the defeats have come against West Ham (Last home game), Blackburn, Manchester City, Manchester United & Birmingham. Not good. Last time out of course Blackpool lost 5-3 at Everton which proves the point that Blackpool aren’t going to go down without entertaining everybody if they do.
Villa’s poor away form this season has seen them win just two games at Wolves & Wigan and draws at Fulham, Chelsea & Birmingham. The long list of defeats in all it’s glory is Liverpool, Newcastle, Sunderland, Blackburn, Spurs, Stoke, Manchester City & Manchester United. Again not good.
I think that as Blackpool seem to be in such freefall & Villa have improved since the signing of Darren Bent then they will win & I think I might have to go back to my pre & early season preview of Blackpool going down.
Match prediction: Aston Villa to win
Score Prediction: Blackpool 1 Aston Villa 2
Attendance Prediction: 16,000
Match 6: Liverpool – Wigan: (Saturday February 12th: 3pm):
Liverpool recorded their third away win of the season when they had a great result winning one nil at Chelsea last Sunday. By all accounts it was a poor game but I suspect that Liverpool won’t care. That result more or less finishes Chelsea’s title challenge as it leaves them 10 points adrift of Manchester United & six behind second placed Arsenal. Liverpool have now moved up to 6th, 6 points behind Spurs. Liverpool have turned the corner since Dalglish’s appointment & are now unbeaten in 5 games which has included them winning their last four. Liverpool have lost 10 league games this season yet they find themselves 6th in the table. This says a lot for the closeness of the league this season.
Liverpool have lost twice at home this season to Blackpool & Wolves. They have drawn with Arsenal, Sunderland & Everton but have beaten Blackburn, Bolton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Stoke, West Ham & West Brom. A good home record then & you have to wonder where Liverpool would be if they had a half decent away record.
Wigan managed a very good win over Blackburn last Saturday which still leaves them in the bottom three but only behind West Brom on goal difference. Wigan’s away form is ok considering they are a bottom three side. They have only managed two wins at Wolves & Spurs but have lost at Manchester United, Blackburn, Arsenal, West Ham & Fulham. However, they have managed draws at Birmingham, Everton, Bolton, West Brom & Newcastle. It is Wigan’s home form that seems to be dragging them down the table.
A home win then & how many will Liverpool will win by?
Match prediction: Liverpool to win
Score Prediction: Liverpool 3 Wigan 0
Attendance Prediction: 42,000
Match 7: West Brom – West Ham: (Saturday February 12th: 3pm):
West Brom sacked their manager Roberto Di Matteo on Monday after they had lost three nil at Manchester City & slipped to 17th in the table just goal difference separating them & a place in the bottom three. West Brom look like appointing Chris Hughton the former Newcastle Manager & I suspect he will be in charge for this crunch relegation game against West Ham.
The Hammers are bottom of the table but only behind Albion by two points such is the closeness of the table this season. The hammers lost 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers Birmingham last Sunday which is a result they would have been disappointed with after they had won 3-1 at Blackpool in their previous game.
West Ham are fighting to stay up & they could still do it despite being bottom of the table. They have won twice away this season at Fulham & Blackpool while they have drawn at Blackburn, Birmingham, Everton & stoke. The list of defeats is Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle, Sunderland & Aston Villa.
West Brom have managed most of their wins at home this season. They have won 5 of their 7 victories at home. The wins at home have come against Newcastle, Sunderland, Fulham, Birmingham & Blackpool. They have also drawn with Spurs, Wigan & Bolton. The 4 home defeats have come against Manchester United, Manchester City, Stoke & Blackburn.
I think that the appointment of Chris Hughton will make enough difference for West Brom to win this game but it will be a close game & yes West Brom won’t keep a clean sheet.
Match prediction: A West Brom win
Score Prediction: West Brom 2 West Ham 1
Attendance Prediction: 26,000
Match 8: Sunderland – Tottenham: (Saturday February 12th: 5.30pm):
Sunderland lost at Stoke last Saturday 3-2 which will have disappointed them as they were leading 2-1 early in the second half. Sunderland have now dropped to seventh in the table & need to get back to winning ways to try & keep up the pressure on an European place.
Sunderland have a good home record with only two defeats to Blackpool & last time out when they lost 4-2 to Chelsea. The wins at home have come against Blackburn, Manchester City, Stoke, Aston Villa, Bolton & West Ham. They also had good draws against Arsenal & Manchester United as well as other draws against Birmingham, Everton & Newcastle. So a good home record against a good away record which is Spurs boast.
Spurs are 5th behind Chelsea on goal difference. It must be pointed out that the goal difference is in very much in Chelsea’s favour as it stands at 24 against 8 against Spurs. Spurs away record this season was improved by a 1-0 win at Blackburn last time out. Their other away wins this season have been at Arsenal (Their best), Aston Villa, Stoke & Fulham. They have also managed draws at West Brom, Birmingham & Newcastle. The defeats have come at Manchester United, West Ham, Bolton & Everton.
I think this game will end in a draw because both sides will cancel each other out as they did when they met at White Hart Lane earlier in the season in a 1-1 draw.
Match prediction: A Draw
Score Prediction: Sunderland 1 Spurs 1
Attendance Prediction: 38,000
Match 9: Bolton – Everton: (Sunday February 13th: 4pm):
Bolton lost away again last Saturday when they went down 2-1 to a late goal at Spurs. It was their 6th away defeat on the bounce. Thankfully Bolton’s home form has held up during this bad away run otherwise they would be even lower in the table than the current 8th place they occupy.
Last time out at home Bolton beat Wolves 1-0 at home with a late second half goal. This was a result they needed at home after they had lost 4-0 at home to Chelsea in their previous home game. The Chelsea defeat was only their second home defeat of the season after they had lost 1-0 to Liverpool earlier in the season. Bolton’s home form is good then with wins against Blackburn, Newcastle, Stoke, Spurs, Wolves & West Brom & draws against Manchester United, Fulham, Wigan & Birmingham.
Everton may have only won away at Manchester City & Birmingham but they have drawn a lot of games & only Arsenal, Blackburn, Aston Villa & Stoke. The plus side has of course been the draws at West Ham, Spurs, Sunderland, Liverpool, Blackpool, Fulham & Chelsea.
I feel that Everton are beginning to turn the corner especially as they came from behind to beat Blackpool at home last Saturday 5-3 when they were 3-2 down in the second half.
Match Prediction: Everton to win
Score Prediction: Bolton 0 Everton 2
Attendance prediction: 25,000
Match 10: Fulham – Chelsea: (Monday February 14th: 8pm):
Fulham gained a useful point on Saturday when they came from behind to draw 2-2 at Aston Villa. They are 12th in the table & seemingly safe from relegation. They now face a Chelsea side who lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool on Sunday to more or less end their title chances as they are now 10 points behind Manchester United. Chelsea should still qualify for the Champions League however, shouldn’t they?
Fulham have picked up since the turn of the year with two wins against Stoke plus wins against Newcastle & West Brom not to mention a thumping 4-0 win against Spurs in the FA Cup the other week. Couple that with useful draws at Wigan & Aston Villa & you can see why Mark Hughes has pulled his Fulham side up the table. Their only defeat in this run was a narrow 1-0 defeat at improved Liverpool.
Chelsea’s defeat to Liverpool on Sunday was their second at home this season & 7th overall this season in the league. The five away defeats they have suffered this season have come at Wolves, Manchester City, Birmingham, Liverpool & Arsenal while they have drawn at Spurs, Newcastle & Aston Villa. The wins have come at Bolton, Sunderland, Wigan, Blackburn & West Ham. It is Chelsea’s away form that sees them 10 points adrift.
I think that Fulham’s run has to end & it will against Chelsea who have made several signings. Fulham will still stay up I feel despite defeat in this game which I suspect will be a close game just as the previous game this season between the two sides was when Chelsea won 1-0.
Match Prediction: A Chelsea win
Score Prediction: Fulham 1 Chelsea 2
Attendance Prediction: 27,000
