Mounir El Hamdaoui is a Dutch player of Moroccan descent (he plays in the national team of Morocco). Yesterday evening he was playing with his Dutch team Ajax Amsterdam against Heerenveen and displayed some magic. He scored two goals that are shown everywhere right now, because they are awesome! Two beauties in the same match! The only other player that I have seen in my days that scored even three of those in one match, was legendary Dutch international Dennis Bergkamp (who played in London with Arsenal for a long time).
Also Mounir has been playing in the UK. He was first playing for the Spurs in London (where right now Van der Vaart is showing his skills) and later a few matches only for Derby County. While playing for the Spurs, Mounir became famous for what is now called the “El Hamdaoui Flick” which was a brilliant move he showed in an international match. After the brilliant flick, the ball ended up with Spurs player Keane, who unfortunately was offside.
The roots of El Hamdaoui are Moroccan, but he grew up in the same city as Robin van Persie. In fact, they were very good friends when they were just kids and they showed the city what technical perfection was on the playgrounds of Rotterdam. Still today, El Hamdaoui and Van Persie are known as some of the best technically skilled players in the world.
After the matches of yesterday, Mounir El Hamdaoui is top scorer of the Dutch League, together with Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Utrecht, another Dutch super talent, who single-handedly knocked out Celtic out of the Europe League.
The fact that Mounir is living in Rotterdam while playing in Amsterdam, doesn’t seem to be a problem, even though Ajax Amsterdam and Feyenoord Rotterdam are rivals and their supporters are not even allowed to be in the stadium when the teams play each other.
Mounir probably couldn’t care less. His value went up by a few million dollars yesterday evening and with players like El Hamdaoui on the field, people will keep paying a lot of money just to see a match in a stadium.
My goal here is to talk about not only the game of soccer itself but also getting in shape for the soccer season.
