The English Premier League has often been synonymous with the clubs Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool – also known as the Big Four. These four clubs have often been identified as the best of English football since the top 20 teams broke off from the Football Association to form the English Premier League. The four of them have earned the right to be known as the biggest clubs in the country after consistently winning the top trophies in English football every season. Building of the amazing new Cape Town Stadium, located on the Green Point Common between the twin South African icons of Table Mountain and Robben Island, began in March 2007.

In just under 3 years , joint contractors Murray & Roberts and WBHO completed the enourmous task at a cost of R4,4-billion – or or so US$600-million. GMP Architects of Germany and two local firms, Louis Karol and Associates and Point Architects, linked forces to design the stadium.

A tribute to Brian Clough

In December 1986 I travelled from York to watch Newcastle play Nottingham Forest in a 1st Division Game. I had never been to Newcastle’s ground before nor had I seen either team play before but the main reason I was going to the game was to see “Brain Clough’s” Nottingham Forest play.

Soccer City is the gem in South Africa’s crown, built in 1987 and with a capacity of 94,700 (excluding Media and VIP’s) it is sure to offer an eminent atmosphere for the lucky few thousand that manage to buy their tickets and hopefully as the stadium to be used for the first game, provide an excellent springboard for a magnificent tournament.
